Operasonic’s Nightmare Scenario Heads To Newport’s Riverfront Theatre

Operasonic are to perform a brand-new family show entitled Nightmare Scenario at Newport’s Riverfront Theatre combining theatre and music.

The presentattion follows the story of a young girl, lied to by her parents and a soldier betrayed by his leaders and how they are thrown together in a world of war. Nightmare Scenario is an edgy and immersive musical mystery that places the audience in the centre of the action and leaves the final decision to them.

Nightmare Scenario was originally developed in Newport working with pupils from Pillgwennlly Primary School in 2017. Pupils worked with composer Stephen Deazley and writer Martin Riley to create the story at the heart of the show.

Operasonic’s Nightmare Scenario will be performed at The Riverfront Theatre & Arts Centre from Thursday 11 – Saturday 13 November.

Riley comments on how the pupils explored the story: “They loved the adventure of it but weren’t afraid to face issues around war and prejudice, family love and loyalty, identity, tyranny and displacement – all of which provide the inspiration and folkloric heart of Nightmare Scenario, a music, song and drama experience quite unlike anything you are likely to encounter anywhere else.”

For Operasonic’s 2021 production they are joined by an amazing cast from across the world. Baritone Michael Anthony McGee from Texas has sung in opera houses across the United States and Europe. British-Pakistani soprano Mimi Doulton has performed at the Royal Opera House, Longborough Opera and Music Theatre Wales and is making a reputation singing new music. Tenor Sandeep Gurrapadi was brought up in India and America, and works as a singer, composer and educator throughout the UK, America, India and China. Final cast member is Welsh actress Seren Vickers who is making a name for herself in theatre and film in Wales and beyond.
