Fans of Doris Day are in for a treat as a show celebrating the legendary film, stage and singing stars centenary will play Newport’s Riverfront Theatre on June 19.
A Day To Remember –The Doris Day Centenary Songbook features award –winning singer Lynda Radford, singer Brad Pepper, and the Day to Remember Band and is a celebration of 100 years of the life and music of Doris Day. This special centenary production features recreated duets with Doris Day’s leading men and best friends, including Frank Sinatra, Rock Hudson, Dean Martin, Perry Como and John Denver.
Among the twenty-five unforgettable hits performed will be Secret Love, Que Sera Sera, Windy City, Makin’ Whoopee, Pillow Talk, and Deadwood Stage.
Doris Day – Music & Film Star
Doris began her career as a big band singer in 1939, achieving commercial success in 1945 with a No. 1 recording of Sentimental Journey. Doris ultimately recorded more than 650 songs from 1947 to 1967.
Doris Day’s film career began during the latter part of the Golden Age of Hollywood with the film Romance on the High Seas (1948), leading to a 20-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in films of many genres, including musicals, comedies, dramas, and thrillers. She played the title role in the 1953 musical comedy Calamity Jane and starred in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1956 thriller The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart.
Lynda Radford Recreates Doris Day On Stage
Recreating the all-important Doris Day magic on stage is award-winning singer and entertainer Lynda Radford. Trained at the Drama Studio London and Actors Centre London; Lynda also received professional tuition from Mary Hammond and Penny Harvey Piper.
During 2018 and 2019, Lynda appeared throughout the UK in A Night of the Musicals. Her one woman show, Subversive, was presented in London’s West End at the Jermyn Street Theatre and an album of the same name, produced by Mainstem productions, was subsequently released to rave reviews.
