Odyssey Theatre’s My Favourite Dog To Play Three Venues In Gloucester, Newport & Monmouth

A new stage play based on a South Wales author’s true account of dementia, love and dogs is to be presented by Odyssey Theatre Company across three venues in Gloucester, Newport and Monmouth this summer.

My Favourite Dog by Adele Cordner is based on Val Ormrod’s touching memoir, In My Father’s Memory and explores the relationship between a father and his daughter.

The presentation uses verbatim dialogue to tell the story of the onset of a father’s dementia whilst also exploring his past life as a younger man who lived through a tumultuous period of history.

In the play, Dad’s daughter Helen works through stages of denial, frustration, and desperation, until the love for her father eventually leads Helen to acceptance and find moments of joy in their new reality.

My Favourite Dog will play venues in Gloucester, Monmouth and Newport.

The play, a celebration of life and family love which survives even the toughest times, is the latest stage presentation penned by South Wales writer Adele Cordner, author of The Balloon Girls which was recently performed by Newport Playgoers Society.

Adele was inspired to write My Favourite Dog after reading Val Ormrod’s memoir, In My Father’s Memory, based on Val’s own experiences with her father who was diagnosed with dementia in the later years of his life.

My Favourite Dog will be performed at The Kings Theatre, Gloucester on July 29 and 30, Barnabas Arts House, Newport on August 5 and Llandago Millennium Hall, Monmouth on August 6.
