Former Blue Peter star, Peter Duncan, will play John Blondel with Daniel Rainford, who recently completed a UK tour of Michael Morpurgo’s Private Peaceful, as The Speaker in the upcoming ghost story, When Darkness Falls. Following a successful season at Park Theatre in London last summer, When Darkness Falls is written by James Milton and Paul Morrissey.
The UK Tour, opens on September 15 at the Grand Theatre, Blackpool, running through to October 29 2022, with more dates to be announced for 2023.
Inspired by true events, When Darkness Falls follows a young paranormal expert who joins a sceptical history teacher to record the first in a series of podcasts based on the island’s incredible folklore and paranormal history. The new production aims to draw the audience into disturbing stories.
The show’s illusions are designed by John Bulleid, who was involved in productions such as The Prince of Egypt and The Cursed Child. Paul Morrissey will be directing and Justin Williams is the designer. Lighting is to be done by Bethany Gupwell and Daniel Higgott.
The production has also partnered with the Unexplained Podcast and the host, Richard McClean Smith, will make appearances at productions with dates to be revealed. Unexplained is a story-based podcast in which host and creator Richard MacLean Smith explores a different unexplained mystery each week. With each episode, MacLean Smith leads the listener on an atmospheric journey through the strange.
