Picture Special: Centrestage Cymru Bring The Wizard of Oz To Newport’s Dolman Theatre

Get ready to Follow the Yellow Brick Road this October as Centrestage Cymru return to Newport’s Dolman Theatre with a delightful stage adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s beloved tale, The Wizard of Oz.

Featuring the iconic musical score from the MGM film, The Wizard of Oz follows the adventures of young Dorothy Gale travels from Kansas Over the Rainbow to the magical Land of Oz.  

Entertainment South Wales recently visited rehearsals for the colourful show that continues to delight audiences of all ages and features the loved songs “Over The Rainbow,” “Munchkinland (Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead),” “If I Only Had A Brain/A Heart/The Nerve,” “We’re Off To See The Wizard (Follow The Yellow Brick Road),” “The Jitterbug,” and “The Merry Old Land of Oz.”

The Wizard of Oz will be presented by Centrestage Cymru, who formed in 2012. In the past decade the group of talented performers have brought many sell-out musicals to the stage of Newport’s Dolman Theatre including Whistle Down the Wind, Grease, Singin’ in the Rain, Sister Act, Evita and Annie!

Our photographs capture Director, Sharon Higgins Bem, Music Director, Victoria Bryant along with The Wizard of Oz cast, Bethan Daniels as Dorothy, Luke Palfrey as The Scarecrow, Marc Williams as The Tin man, Jordan Eric Leigh as The Lion, Andre-Paul Spring as Uncle Henry/Emerald City Guard, Julie Williams as Aunt Em/Glinda, Michelle Meano as Miss Gultch/Wicked Witch and Alfie Boe as Toto. The Wizard of Oz will feature strong support from the Centrestage Cymru ensemble cast and The Sharon Higgins Academy of Dance also pictured.

Centrestage Cymru’s presentation of The Wizard of Oz runs at The Dolman Theatre, Newport from October 26-29, 2022. Performances start at 7:15pm, with an additional matinee performance at 2.15pm on the Saturday.
