A captivating season of three ballet will be performed this Christmas at St David’s Hall for the first time ever in Cardiff by the Varna International Ballet & Orchestra in partnership with Raymond Gubbay Ltd.
Coppélia Opens St David’s Hall Christmas Ballet Season
The captivating series starts in style with Coppélia (Sat 17 – Sun 18 Dec), which tells the charming story of life in a doll-maker’s workshop. This light-hearted tale of mistaken identity and confused lovers is ideal for first-time ballet-goers.
Festive Favourite – The Nutcracker
Then it’s time for the whole family to enjoy the festive favourite, The Nutcracker (Mon 19 – Sat 24 Dec). Get ready to be swept off to a mysterious place where nothing is quite as it seems. Watch with astonishment as toys spring to life, and the treacherous Mouse King battles the handsome Nutcracker Prince.
Romance at Swan Lake
After Christmas it’s the greatest romantic ballet of all time, Swan Lake (Tues 27 – Sat 31 Dec), which features Tchaikovsky’s haunting score. From the majesty of the palace ballroom to moonlit lakes, this compelling tale of tragic romance has it all.
