Get ready for a fun-filled voyage of a lifetime as Concept Players take to the stage of Newport’s Dolman Theatre this Spring for their presentation of the Cole Porter musical, Anything Goes.
Set upon a transatlantic liner heading from New York to England with a motley bunch of passengers and crew, Anything Goes finds Billy Crocker, a young New York stockbroker, madly in love with the beautiful heiress Hope Harcourt. Whilst saying goodbye to his boss, the blustery Elisha J Whitney, Billy spies Hope embarking and immediately decides to stow away and win her heart.
Hope, however, is due to marry the English aristocrat, the somewhat Woosterish figure, Sir Evelyn Oakleigh (after all, some of the story was written by P.G Wodehouse). Also on board are the sultry nightclub singer evangelist Reno Sweeney who brings a lot of sass to the show and Moonface Martin, a rather unsuccessful gangster (Public Enemy No.13) on the run with his moll. Surround these characters with riotous comedy, mistaken identities, love forsaken (and regained) and you are guaranteed a great night.
If the story isn’t exciting enough, there is also a classic collection of Cole Porter musical hits including, You’re The Top, Blow Gabriel Blow, I Get A Kick Out Of You and, the show stopper itself, Anything Goes.

The original Broadway production of Anything Goes featured Ethel Merman as Reno Sweeney. More recently, Sutton Foster took the lead in a glamorous West End revival featuring Robert Lindsay and Felicity Kendall. Previous stars to have tread the boards in Anything Goes include Patti LuPone, John Barrowman, Bonnie Langford, Joel Grey, Elaine Paige and Bernard Cribbins!
Now, fresh from a weeklong series of performances at Penarth’s Paget Rooms, Concept Players are setting sail with Anything Goes to entertain audiences at Newport’s Dolman Theatre from March 30th to April 1st. The production is described by Katherine Peach (viewmags.co.uk) as “a fun-filled, toe-tapping, hilarious musical for the whole family” and sure to be a sell-out!
