Picture Special: Pride in the Port 2023

A grey September morning was transformed into a vibrant display of colour and joy on Saturday as the second annual Pride in the Port event came to Newport.

Moving from last year’s venue of Belle Vue park into the heart of the city Centre, a vibrant procession of LGBTQI+ individuality made its way from John Frost square to the Riverfront Theatre and Arts centre in the final hour of the morning. It was wonderful to witness a sense of community spirit, acceptance, love and passion from participants and onlookers alike.

The free event continued from 12pm to 7pm in and around Newport’s riverfront Theatre and arts centre. While the venue hosted many stalls and information points a cavalcade of free entertainment was hosted outside.

The greyness of the morning had shifted as the glitter of the Pride in The Port proceedings took centre stage, making way for a warm afternoon of sunshine by the River Usk. Drag artists, community choirs, theatre performers and music artists united to participate in a memorable and accessible afternoon for all the family.
