Casualty Stars Feature In Sherman Theatre’s Heart Of Cardiff Series

Sherman Theatre first audio drama in the theatre’s Heart of Cardiff series, Kyle Lima’s Mr Carlos De Pass, directed by Artistic Director Joe Murphy is now streaming via the Sherman Theatre website.

Patrick Robinson Stars As Carlos De Pass

The production brings together two stellar actors from British theatre, TV and film. Carlos De Pass will be played by Cardiff-based actor Patrick Robinson, who has worked extensively across theatre, TV and film and was most recently seen in BBC’s timely and important drama based on the Windrush scandal, Sitting In Limbo. Best known for playing Ash in BBC’s Casualty, Patrick graduated from LAMDA before working for the Royal Shakespeare Company for four years and joining the cast of War Horse at the New London Theatre.

Lloyd Everitt Stars As Trix

Lloyd Everitt and Patrick Robinson star in Sherman Theatre first audio drama in the Theatre’s Heart of Cardiff series, Kyle Lima’s Mr Carlos De Pass, directed by Artistic Director Joe Murphy , now streaming via the Sherman Theatre website.

Playing Carlos De Pass’s great-grandson Trix is Lloyd Everitt, who trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. The Welsh-born performer was the youngest ever actor to play Othello at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and is also well-known for his role in BBC’s Casualty playing Jez.   

Mr Carlos De Pass – An Audio Drama by Kyle Lima

Audio drama Mr Carlos De Pass, by Sherman Theatre Associate Artist Kyle Lima, tells the true story of an unsung hero of Black Welsh history. The play is based on interviews originally created for a Tiger Bay culture and heritage documentary for the Black Film & Video Workshop Wales Group in the 1980s. Kyle came across the tapes when researching his own family history in Tiger Bay, dating back to stories of his grandparents growing up in the area now known as Butetown.

With his great-grandson facing racism, Carlos De Pass shares the incredible story of his ordeal as a WWII Prisoner of War and what the experience taught him in this moving, heartfelt audio drama.

Touching on timely issues and the importance of intergenerational connection, Mr Carlos De Pass is Kyle Lima’s first play as a writer for Sherman Theatre.

Joe Murphy, Artistic Director of Sherman Theatre and Director of Mr Carlos De Pass, said: “We’re thrilled to be kicking off the Heart of Cardiff series with this brilliant play from Kyle Lima, an emerging voice in Welsh writing with an important, timely story to tell.

“Working with this cast to bring Kyle’s play to life has been an incredible experience and they’ve tackled these characters with so much heart. It has been inspiring to work with this talented team on such an evocative, moving piece of writing, which gives voice to a story we should all be listening to right now.

Joe Murphy directs Mr Carlos De Pass, alongside Assistant Director Yasmin Begum who makes her directorial debut with the production.
